Newly Designed GN Mud Plant, Smaller Footprint, Larger Storage Capacity

Mud plant is like a mud station, which is used to storage the drilling mud from the rig site drilling mud system and also make the mud to be ready for next time usage for the drilling rig. So there are two main functions for the mud plant, the first one is the storage capability, while the second is the treating capability. In the newly designed GN mud plant, both of the two functions are made to the best.

Storage capacity: in this new design, GN fully uses the limited space to get a maximum storage capacity, this design is totally different from the traditional ones, which are long containerized mud tanks, laid in lines or in L shape. In the new design, besides the treating tanks, the storage tanks are designed to be vertical ones shaped in cylinders, on top of each cylinder tank, there is a large power mud agitator.

Treating capability: it is not about treating capacity, it means the equipment used for treating the drilling mud. Normally, the solids control system contains 4 phase solids control equipment for shale shaker, desander, desilter and decanter centrifuge. But because the decanter centrifuge is of higher cost not only when purchasing but also for operating, some drilling companies don’t use it in solids control system. In this system there is a decanter centrifuge used for further treating the drilling mud from the solids control systems, and of course, it is equipped with mud agitator, mud guns and mud mixing system. Per some clients’ request, GN could also add a dewatering unit to the mud plant for separating out the extra fine solids particles.

In some extra hot conditions, GN has designed the mud plant with a sunshade on the whole system, it is more human oriented and enhanced the efficiency of the equipment.
