Every year, the global mining industry converges in Toronto for the Prospectors & Developers Association of Canada Convention (PDAC). It is one of the few events where exploration geologists, EPC firms, equipment manufacturers, and operators all stand on the same floor discussing the same problems—how to move material more efficiently, how to recover more value, and how to control operating costs in increasingly demanding environments.

From a solids control and separation perspective, PDAC is always a valuable pulse check on where the industry is heading.

A Shift Toward Efficiency and Water Management

Across mining, one trend continues to accelerate:
water management and tailings handling are no longer secondary considerations—they are primary design constraints.

Operators are looking for:

  • Higher recovery of usable water

  • Reduced haulage and disposal costs

  • Smaller footprints

  • Modular systems that can deploy quickly

This is where mechanical separation equipment—centrifuges, screw presses, and dewatering systems—has moved from being auxiliary equipment to becoming part of the core process.

The Reality in the Field

Many mining operations, particularly in remote regions, are not running laboratory conditions. They are dealing with:

  • Variable feed solids

  • Abrasive material

  • Limited maintenance resources

  • Tight schedules and tighter budgets

Equipment that performs reliably in those conditions is what ultimately earns trust in the market—not brochure specifications.

At GN Solids America, most of our discussions with mining clients revolve around practical questions:

  • How quickly can equipment be delivered?

  • How easy is it to maintain?

  • Can operators run it without specialized technicians?

  • What is the real operating cost per cubic meter processed?

Those are the questions that matter in the field.

If you are current or prospective client that would like to attend PDAC in Toronto, please communicate with the engineer assigned to your project.
